It is not clear if the PDP,
weakening opposition party in the country was deliberate in its choice of Atiku
Abubakar as its presidential flag bearer or it was by some surreptitious
omission that saw the emergence of the former vice president as its elected
flag bearer at its national primary convention which was
held in Porthacourt that Atiku Abubakar suddenly earned so much votes that gave
him a clear lead over other contenders speaks volume at the low sink the PDP
has sunk.
The APC for just that move and like
the bobby trap, the PDP walked into it and now, the PDP is trapped with its
flag bearer who according to an APC stalwart lacks credibility, integrity,
faith and loyalty. These four virtues are most wanted in any politician seeking
public leadership.
Atiku has demonstrated lack of
faith, credibility loyalty and of course integrity. Another APC stalwart asked;
is this the kind of man the PDP is pushing forward as its presidential flag
bearer?
Inordinate ambition has been a mark
of Atiku all along his career, Atiku has shown himself to be a desperado for
power, being a desperado for power has exposed his other side which Nigerians
have consistently rejected. It becomes a big surprise for the APC and other
political parties who thought the PDP to be the foremost opposition with the
clout to wrestle power from the APC, assuming it was someone else that the PDP
is fielding other than Atiku.
Shakespeare says about the evil
people do is living after them, in the case of Atiku his lack of loyalty and
faith have made him to be a sort of strange politician not to be trusted.
He, Atiku has no great or massive
support from the north. The northern elders do not trust him. His political
associates know him as an overly ambitious and desperate politician and
ruthless.
His ruthlessness came to fore when he
tried to sideline his boss, Obasanjo in 2003. This singular act of disloyalty
has followed him ever since and roused a political vendetta of sort.
No wonder the pains of that
betrayal has stuck in the mind of Obasanjo that it is both unforgettable and
unforgivable sin.
While this sounds like s personal
political vendetta between Obasanjo and Atiku it has a national connotation.
Apart from the northern elders, all
the retired Military generals are not comfortable with Atiku’s presidential
ambition. Atiku has not kept the faith, and the youths are wary of him too. It
is in the light of this and other security facts held close to the APC bosom
that the APC is laughing at the PDP for choosing Atiku Abubakar as its
presidential flag bearer. Let’s meet at the Pools.
The APC is eagerly throwing the
challenge as it makes no effort to hide its joy at the happenstance of the PDP
come February 2019. Atiku’s nomination according to an APC man is the death
nail that will send PDP into oblivion and not as an opposition anymore.
Nigeria needs a credible president one
with integrity, credibility, faith and loyalty. These virtues are harly seen in
PDP and now in its choice of nominee.
As it is now, the PDP’s coffin is
in construction , a beautiful coffin as such , so that at the end of the pools,
PDP will be packaged in this beautiful casket and sent via pall bearers like a
gift box of chocolate into oblivion.
Worthy of note: during the
primaries of both parties, the APC was honoured to have youths and sundry
clamouring for the return of Buhari. A line up of 14 million votes as the last
cout voted in favour of Buhari.
Buhari was unanimously voted for at
the primaries. The question we pose here is how many persons voted in the PDP
primaries in the enclave of Portharcourt? Just about 4000 delegates and how
many actually voted for Atiku? He curried just above 1000 votes. Is this the
popular demand?
How does one compare fourteen
million with two thousand?
Nemesis has actually caught up with
PDP now. The PDP is not only in dither it is in a mission of self destruction.
