PDP ACCUSES APC OF INFLUENCING TRANSFER OF EIGHT CPs TO BAYELSA INTWO MONTHS

The national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress òf surreptitiously influencing the alarming frequent transfer of police commissioners in and out of Bayelsa State.

The National Public Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, called on the well meaning Nigerian populace to prevail on the Inspector General òf Police, to avoid the dangerous dimension of politicizing security in the country.

Ologbondiyan said that it was beyond the ordinary that eight police commissioners would be posted to Bayelsa State within an alarmingly short period of three months.

The PDP Spokesman alleged that political desperation on the part of the national leadership of the APC and their leaders in Bayelsa was responsible for the frequent posting of police commissioners to Bayelsa with the intent to destabilize the peaceful state ahead of the 2019 elections.

Preliminary findings show that the APC leaders influence the postings of their lackeys in uniform to the state to instill fear in the PDP and create the impression that they could use the security agencies to destabilize the state and rig the general elections even with the consciousness that the APC has no capacity to win elections in the state.

Ologbondiyan stressed that it was indeed worthy of note that some of the Police Commissioners spent less than a week before being pulled out of the state by the police authorities who have unfortunately acceded to the demand of the APC to deploy the police chiefs.

He said that while it was within the powers of the IGP to direct postings of personnel, the targeting of the security and stability of opposition states should be condemned by all men of good conscience.

He listed the Police Commissioners who have been affected by the curious transfers to Bayelsa to include Asukwo Amba, CP Don Awunah, Joseph Mukan, Ahmed Bello, Ahmad Abdulrahman, Austin Iwar, Ebere Onyeagoro, and then Joseph Mukan.

Onyeagoro who took over less than three weeks ago has been replaced with Joseph Mukan.

Ologbondiyan said that the Bayelsa State Government has done so much for the peace and security of the oil producing state and should be encouraged to consolidate on the prevailing peace and not instigate insecurity.

He described the frequent transfer of police commissioners to and fro Bayelsa as a sordid attempt by operatives of the ruling APC to convert the police to a criminal outfit.

Ologbondiyan said that the PDP national leadership was aware of anxiety and anger in the state and demoralizing effect of the leadership instability on policemen and police operations in the state.

He said Nigerians must note that the county might not survive another insecurity in the Niger Delta even when security agencies grapple with the worsening Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.

He said, “The national leadership of the PDP has observed with dismay, what has become an alarming transfer of police commissioners in Bayelsa.

“At the last count, a total òf eight police commissioners have been transferred to Baayelsa State in the last three months. This attempt to cow the police for political purposes is an an absurdity which should be condemned by all.

“The posting of eight police commissioners to one state in two, three months is an absurdity and a scandal that should not escape the attention of the well meaning public.

“The IGP should be prevailed upon to do the right thing. He should post his men according to their professional competence as
as shown in their records, and allow them to do their jobs without interference from unscrupulous political characters in the APC.

He said Nigerians must note that the county might not survive another insecurity in the Niger Delta even when security agencies grapple with the worsening Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.
