Governor Dickson congratulates Wike

Bayelsa State Governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has described as heartwarming and well-deserved the re-election of his Rivers State counterpart, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

Governor Dickson, who expressed his delight on Wike's re-election in a congratulatory message signed by his Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said it is gratifying that the will of the Rivers people eventually prevailed over federal might.

He noted that the Rivers governorship election again proved that might cannot always be right and that democracy can only thrive when the expressed wishes of the people was allowed to prevail.

The Bayelsa governor commended the people of the state for not only re-electing Wike but also for standing firm to protect their votes.

He also condemned the needless violence that attended the election and the roles played by agents of the federal government, which he noted yielded themselves to the whims of desperate politicians bent on fomenting crisis in the state.

His words: "I congratulate my dear brother and colleague, Barr. Nyesom Wike, on his well-deserved re-election. This is most heartwarming just as it is equally gratifying that the expressed will of the people of Rivers State prevailed at the end of the day. Democracy thrives when the wishes of the people prevail.

"Might has not always been right. And the Rivers election was yet another proof that people power will always overcome might even when it is deployed by the federal government. The peoples of Bayelsa and Rivers have proved this to be so.

"I therefore commend the Rivers people for resisting the attempts to subvert their will. In the same vein, I condemn the roles played by security agencies of the federal government that yielded themselves to the whims of desperate politicians in the state. Election cannot be a do-or-die affair. This should be a lesson for politicians in our region who engage in needless violence and militarisation of the voting process because of their access to the federal government in Abuja."
