Stay away from Bauchi politics – Group warns Oshiomhole

-       Says you are APC national chairman not national chairman of Nigeria

Universal Democracy Monitors, a frontline political pressure group affiliated to the youths wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, to stop interfering in the affairs of the State Houses of Assembly across the country.

In a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by Messers Richard Ogolo and Timi Oraka, the group’s National Chairman and Secretary-General respectively, the Port Harcourt-based group urged Oshiomhole to steer clear of the political happenings in Bauchi; and focus more on resolving the domestic political crisis in his home state of Edo, rather than interfering not only in the Speakership tussle of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, but the affairs of Bauchi State in general.

The group in very strong terms condemned Oshiomhole for describing the emergence of Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly as an illegality; insisting it is a plot to preventing the smooth running of governance in the state.

The statement said “We are critical stakeholders in PDP, as such we cannot close our eyes to such arrogant interference if the affairs of Bauchi State by the APC national chairman. For crying out loud Oshiomhole should not forget that he is the national chairman of the APC and not national chairman of Nigeria”.

“If not for his domineering attitude and selfish interest, how can one fault a process whereby thirteen members of the state House of Assembly elected the Speaker on the floor of the House of Assembly with the mace, Clerk and staff, but unfortunately, another faction of the APC who are House members, emerged from their hotel rooms and in a kung-fu manner try to impose another person as Speaker”, the statement added.

Some days back, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had warned the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to avoid trouble by respecting the sanctity of the state House of Assembly.

He gave the warning following the inauguration and election of Speaker of the assembly, saying

there is no way the PDP can produce the speaker, the deputy speaker and other principal officers; threatening that if the governor insists, then he is inviting trouble for himself.

Meanwhile, the group has advised that Oshiomhole and his party, the APC should hide its face in shame because in the last four years Bauchi State did not witness any visible people-oriented  development under the platform of the APC; and that the people of Bauchi are happier now with a Governor, a tested and proven visionary performer, who is showing willingness and capacity to take the state to greater developmental heights.
