NASS Leadership Election: PDP Constitutes Fact-Finding Committee

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a fact-finding committee on the role played by some of its members at the election of the presiding officers of the National Assembly.

The terms of reference of the committee are:

To find out why some of our Honorable members and senators-elect then, failed to abide by the decision of the party during the National Assembly leadership election;

To find out whether there is any involvement of the ruling Party in the decision taken by the members involved;

Where there are established reasons for taking the action by members, the committee should identify such so that the party can create mutual and political atmosphere for reasonable interaction with Senators and Honourable members;

To find out and recommend ways to checkmate such tendencies in the future and ensure that, moving forward, all members work together to defend the interest of the party at all times and circumstances.

 The committee is given three weeks from the date of its inauguration to report to the NWC.

The Committee has former President of the Senate, Senator Adolphus Wabara as Chairman while former National Secretary of the PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo, will serve as Secretary.

Other members of the committee include; Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Senator Stella Omu, Hon Austin Opara, Senator Abdul Ningi, Hon (Mrs) Margaret Icheen, among others.

...SAY HE RUNS WHEN NOBODY PURSUES HIM The Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday described former Governor Timipre Sylva as an unpopular and desperate politician whose conscience remains his greatest threat. Dickson said in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr. FIdelis Soriwei, that Sylva cuts the gnawing image of a troubled man screaming and fleeing at the sight of nobody. Dickson was reacting to a claim by Sylva that the governor was behind a plot to pitch the Chief òf Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, against him through orchestrated media reports. Soriwei said that Governor Dickson is too involved and indeed occupied with the execution of the mandate the Bayelsa people gave to him, to be distracted by the hallucinations of a politician whose lifeline in politics was the state òf the mood of his political masters. The Governor’s media Aide said that it was queer and absurd that Sylva did not point to any p...

Bayelsa State as a microcosm of Nigeria is very significant as it is majorly made up of the Ijaw ethnic nationality, with the main language spoken being Ijaw aside dialects such as Izon, Kolukuma, Mein, Bomu, Nembe, Epie-Atisa, and Ogbia. Like all the other 35 states, it is divided into three senatorial zones, the Bayelsa Central, Bayelsa East and Bayelsa West. Under this democratic dispensation, the first governor, Late Chief DSP Alameiyeseigha, hailed from Southern Ijaw LGA of the Central Senatorial District; his deputy, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who took over from him, is from Ogbia LGA of the East Senatorial Zone. He was succeeded by Chief Timipre Sylva, who is from Brass LGA in the ...
