Organisers Shift 2019 Restoration Cup draws

Organising committee of the Third Governor Seriake Dickson Football Tournament otherwise known as the Restoration Cup has moved the draws ceremony of the 2019 edition to Thursday, June 27.

The draws were initially scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 18..

The Tournament Director, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, told journalists in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, that the shift was necessitated by the huge interest the competition had attracted among communities, religious organisations and higher institutions across the state.

He said more than 150 teams had already registered and that the request for participation forms had not stopped.

"We have been inundated with a high request for participation in this year's competition. More communities than we had last year have registered for the 2019 edition and  we are still receiving requests from teams that want to participate.

"We are encouraged by the interest that the Restoration Cup has  elicited among communities in the state. We believe it is the result of the hugely successful tournament we had last year. So, the interest has soared.

"We are compelled to extend the registration deadline in order to accommodate more teams and communities. Registration and submission of forms will now close on Saturday, June 22," Alabrah said.

While assuring that the organisers will put together a better tournament this year, he solicited the support of the private sector and corporate organisations in the state.

Alabrah said the Restoration Cup had become a veritable sporting tool to discover football talents, to spread the message of peace and unity in the state as well as further the campaign against drug abuse, violence and cultism.

He noted that the state police record showed a reduction in criminal and cult-related activities during the period of the competition.

According to him, it is a clear indication that the people had taken the grassroots competition as their own.

Bayelsa Govt. seals off Agip facility

The Bayelsa State government has sealed the premises of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) Oil and Gas facility, in Egbebiri, a Biseni Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The Chairman of Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board, Hon. Ebi Waribigha, said the sealing of the facility followed an eviction order issued by the State Physical Planning and Development Tribunal in Yenagoa. The eviction order had granted the government of Bayelsa State leave to effect the eviction of Agip and all occupants of the premises to enable the Physical Planning and Development Board to conduct environmental, health, technical integrity and safety checks at the facility. The facility was reportedly built without a building permit as required by the Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Law (2015). The court had also directed the Commissioner of Police, the Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and all security agencies to facilitate the enforc...

SYLVA, A DESPERATE POLITICIAN UNDER THREAT FROM HIS CONSCIENCE - DICKSON

...SAY HE RUNS WHEN NOBODY PURSUES HIM The Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday described former Governor Timipre Sylva as an unpopular and desperate politician whose conscience remains his greatest threat. Dickson said in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr. FIdelis Soriwei, that Sylva cuts the gnawing image of a troubled man screaming and fleeing at the sight of nobody. Dickson was reacting to a claim by Sylva that the governor was behind a plot to pitch the Chief òf Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, against him through orchestrated media reports. Soriwei said that Governor Dickson is too involved and indeed occupied with the execution of the mandate the Bayelsa people gave to him, to be distracted by the hallucinations of a politician whose lifeline in politics was the state òf the mood of his political masters. The Governor’s media Aide said that it was queer and absurd that Sylva did not point to any p...
