RESTORATION CUP RESUMES AUGUST 9

Organisers of the third edition of the Governor Henry Seriake Dickson Football Tournament otherwise known as the Restoration  Cup have said that the competition will resume on Friday, August 9, 2019.

The Tournament Director, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, who disclosed this in a press release issued on Monday, said the tournament was briefly put on hold due to some logistics challenges.

Alabrah added that heavy rainfall also rendered some of the pitches unconducive for good football.

"Apart from the pitch at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, which is of international standard, most other pitches slated for matches got waterlogged due to the heavy rainfall this year. We had no choice than to suspend matches due to logistics and other challenges that we had to contend with," he said.

Alabrah commended the centre coordinators, team sponsors and managers as well as the players for their understanding and patience.

He explained further that matches will commence in all the other centres outside the Yenagoa Local Government Area also on Wednesday, including Odi and Opokuma centres in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Kolo and Otuasega centres in Ogbia, Peretorugbene and Agge centres in Ekeremor as well as Amassoma centre in Southern Ijaw.

So far, matches have been played only in Yenagoa LGA with 31 teams of the 71 that registered for the tournament from the state capital already out of the competition.

Out of the 31 games scheduled, 23 were played. The remaining eight were walk-over while eight out of the 23 churches in the competition have been sent packing.

In Yenagoa, the games were played at five different centres namely, Bishop Dimieri Grammar School (BDGS), Kpansia, Tombia, Ogboloma and Okordia
