We’ll Complete Sagbama-Ekeremor Road In First Tenure, Says Gov. Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed satisfaction with work on the second phase of the Sagbama-Ekeremor road project in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

Governor Diri, who defied the rains on Wednesday to inspect the 42-kilometre road from Toru-Orua to Ekeremor, told journalists at Aleibiri that the project would be completed in his first tenure.

The road, which was started by his predecessor, is one of several ongoing similar projects embarked upon by Governor Diri’s Prosperity Administration.

He said if the contractor kept to the terms of the contract, all sections of the road would be completed as scheduled.

Diri assured the people of Bayelsa West of his commitment to fulfill his promises to them.

His words: “I can actually see value for money. I am satisfied and I believe that the terms of the contract would be kept. The contractor promised to deliver the project on time as scheduled.

“We also told Bayelsans that in this first tenure we shall hit Ekeremor. The terms of the contract are such that it is tailored towards the end of our first tenure. Hopefully and by God’s grace we expect that this road and this stretch would be completed in no distant time.”

Also speaking, the Project Manager for Sectraco Construction Company, Engr. I. Julian, said the road is divided into two sections – Toru-Orua to Aleibiri (28km) and Aleibiri to Ekeremor (14km).

The project manager said at the moment, more work was being done on section one while some level of progress had being achieved on section two.

Julian commended the governor for consistently inspecting project sites, which he said contributed to the progress recorded so far.

He promised that the company would give its best to the state by delivering quality projects and on time too.

The Chairman of Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board, Hon. Ebi Waribigha, said the sealing of the facility followed an eviction order issued by the State Physical Planning and Development Tribunal in Yenagoa. The eviction order had granted the government of Bayelsa State leave to effect the eviction of Agip and all occupants of the premises to enable the Physical Planning and Development Board to conduct environmental, health, technical integrity and safety checks at the facility. The facility was reportedly built without a building permit as required by the Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Law (2015). The court had also directed the Commissioner of Police, the Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and all security agencies to facilitate the enforc...

SYLVA, A DESPERATE POLITICIAN UNDER THREAT FROM HIS CONSCIENCE - DICKSON

...SAY HE RUNS WHEN NOBODY PURSUES HIM The Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday described former Governor Timipre Sylva as an unpopular and desperate politician whose conscience remains his greatest threat. Dickson said in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr. FIdelis Soriwei, that Sylva cuts the gnawing image of a troubled man screaming and fleeing at the sight of nobody. Dickson was reacting to a claim by Sylva that the governor was behind a plot to pitch the Chief òf Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, against him through orchestrated media reports. Soriwei said that Governor Dickson is too involved and indeed occupied with the execution of the mandate the Bayelsa people gave to him, to be distracted by the hallucinations of a politician whose lifeline in politics was the state òf the mood of his political masters. The Governor’s media Aide said that it was queer and absurd that Sylva did not point to any p...
